Increasing Evidence of Infallible Proofs

All month we have been writing, talking and preaching about evangelism. We have been doing our best to encourage, enlighten and enhance our efforts to get the message out to the world around us. As Paul would say, “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you” (2 Thess. 3.1). We want the gospel message to have free course, thus glorifying God, encouraging the church and notifying the world of Jesus Christ.

What does infallible mean? How can we increase our knowledge of infallible proofs today?  What evidence has God left in His word may help us win lost souls for Christ? In Acts 1.1-3, Luke records the things Jesus began to do and teach, showing He was alive via infallible proofs. So, what does infallible mean? Coming from the Greek word, “tekmerion”, it literally means, “that from which something is surely and plainly known” or “unquestionable evidence”. This word is used one (1x) time in the New Testament.

How can we increase our knowledge of infallible proofs today? It begins with an honest and good heart (Luke 8.15). We must study to show ourselves approved unto God as Paul wrote to Timothy (2 Tim. 2.15). As the people of God, we must seek truth and know that there is no lie of the truth (John 8.32; 1 John 2.21). After coming to the knowledge of the truth, we should seek to be like Ezra and teach others the way of truth more perfectly (Ezra 7.10). Once we have done these things, we must continue to become more and more precise in the word of God. God has given us many infallible or unquestionable truths and we need to believe them.

What evidence has God left us in His word? He has given us the evidence of Jesus being God in the flesh. Yes, we know the classic text of John 1.14. But the evidence can also be seen in the prophecy of Isaiah, when He prophesied to King Ahab of a virgin bringing forth a son without the aid of a man (Isa. 7.14). Jeremiah’s words would put it this way, “How long will you gad about, O you backsliding daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing in the earth–A woman shall encompass a man” (Jer. 31.22). This would be fulfilled in the person of Mary, the mother of Jesus and wife of Joseph (Matt. 1.21-23). Jesus would literally be “Immanuel” or simply, “God with us”.

Jesus, the Son of God according to Peter’s words in Matthew 16.16, demonstrated His deity as being from the Father Himself. Through many miracles, wonders and signs, which God the Father did through Him, it was shown He was indeed the Son of God (John 11.4). Jesus, with the finger of God, was also casting out devils, demonstrating the kingdom was upon them and that He indeed was the Son of God (Luke 11.20). Finally, when God raised Him from the dead, this was also unquestionable proof that He was the Son of God (Rom. 1.4). We can consult many more passages like Hebrews 1.1-14; 1 John 1.1-5 and Revelation 1.8 as evidence.

We have unquestionable evidence that even before the foundation of the world God’s plan was for men and women to be in the New Testament church (Eph. 1.4). These people would be known as Jews and Gentiles and they both would be in one body–the church (Eph. 2.11-14). “And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch” (Acts 11.26). Paul would call this the mystery and both groups would be fellow heirs and partakers of God’s promise in Christ through the gospel (Eph. 3.1-7). The evidence of this would be seen in the Old Testament pages of inspiration. Isaiah would refer to these ideas in chapter 2.1-3. Amos 9.11-15 would give us great insight as well to the Gentiles being in the faith beginning with Cornelius and his house (Acts 10-11). Finally, Jeremiah’s prophecy in chapter 31.31-34, coupled with Hebrews 8.7-13, would seal the deal for all men being in Christ in one church under one covenant.

There is increasing evidence with unquestionable certainty seen in the pages of inspiration. Time and words would fail us to write about the hope of eternal life with God and the beauty of the New Heavens and the New Earth (Rev. 21.1-4). We have increasing evidence of Jesus returning from heaven to judge mankind in the book of Daniel 12.1-4. Jesus is shown to return on the last day and will judge all men according to the word of God (Acts 17.30-31; John 12.47-48; Rev. 20.11-15). The Bible has many proofs we can study and use to come to the knowledge of the truth. Let us strive to be diligent in our studies and never become content with our knowledge but rather grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth (2 Pet. 3.18). May God be true.
